Ensuring best water quality for coffee is an important target for BWT water+more. But also beyond this business approach, we see our responsibility in providing water for people who do not have access to fresh water in the world.
For this is not lip service, it is already our daily business, together with our partners worldwide. The latest example on this is our commitment to provide for 8 new water wells in Africa, as part of our support for SCA’s commitment and activities on social responsibility.
“We commit ourselves to support the efforts of the SCA on sustainability by the building of 32 (8 per year) new water wells in Africa (Gambia & Tanzania); each giving approx. 600 people access to hygienic, clear, fresh water.
These 32 water wells will be credited as supported by the SCA; and one water well per year will be personalized and named for the winner of that year’s World Barista Championship.”
It has always been a matter of great concern to BWT to help people in need and to support projects that demonstrably make a contribution to the sustainable development of regions affected by poverty. As part of the b.waterMISSION project, a total of 10,000 wells are being built in Gambia, Tanzania and the surrounding areas with the help of BWT, in order to provide local people with access to clean drinking water. Bottle Free Zones not only stand for the best water, they actually change the world – sip by sip.
Therefore, BWT water+more together with the SCA support the b.waterMISSION; a project of AQUA Pearls For You and Planet Blue Foundation. With this project, we have set ourselves the goal of building wells in mainly rural areas of Gambia and Tanzania, thereby ensuring access to clean drinking water. With b.waterMISSION, the basis for the sustainable and reliable implementation is already set. Now it is our (joint) task to build as many taps as possible.

Ensuring sustainable operation via online monitoring and on-site maintenance:
Construction of several thousand taps in the next few years
Access to safe and clean drinking water
Ensuring, that nobody has to walk further than 150 m to the next tapping point
How it works
The b.waterMISSION tap is an intelligent water dispenser which ensures, that the operation is technically monitored. All income can be tracked, controlled, and used transparently by private organizations or authorities to be able to pay for the ongoing maintenance of the systems.
Payment via mobile phone and NFC technology
Local users can use their mobile phone to purchase a b.waterMISSION credit, which is saved on the b.waterMISSION tag. With remote prepayment, traceable water credits can be sent to the taps by authorities, the local villagers, but also by donors all around the world.
The b.waterMISSION technology even works in rural areas with poor data connections, as low-bandwidth mobile connection is used. In remote areas, the NCF technology enables the consumers to load the credit directly on the tag with source water from the tap.
